OUR HERITAGE:

In the rugged heart of Western Europe, in Switzerland, extraordinary cheese has been made for many centuries. Cheese in Switzerland has always been a popular trading product with adjacent nations. It was also simply a way of preserving the milk in remote alpine areas. Last but not least cheese provided basic nutrition that helped people survive the harsh winters in an alpine climate.

The combination of first class raw materials with the passing down of cheese making knowledge from grandfather to father and son ensured the uniqueness and extraordinary quality of Swiss Cheese.

In Switzerland, about two thirds of the cheese produced is handcrafted in small cheese factories. Fresh milk is turned into a large variety of different cheeses on the same day and this variety has made Switzerland the country of cheese. FROMART® cheese is “purely natural” and free of any additives.

Swiss Cheese is well known for its tradition, its natural characteristics and its unique taste. It is no miracle, that cheese has a strong position in every household in Switzerland and is an important part of every day nutrition. The product range is immense. Most of the cheese produced in Switzerland is raw milk cheese, which means that the milk is not pasteurized. Traditionally most cheeses produced are either semi hard cheeses or hard cheeses.

The main product types loved and eaten by Swiss people are Gruyere, Appenzeller, Tilsit, Emmentaler, Sbrinz, Tete de Moine and Raclette.

Cheese is a basic nutrition and of high quality. It is very versatile when used in the preparation of dishes in the kitchen and it promises and delivers to every real cheese connoisseur PLEASURE, INDULGENCE AND SATISFACTION.

OUR STORY:

Our story begins in small alpine hut in the rugged center of Switzerland. After a long hike in the mountains my wife and I decided to stay overnight in one of the small one man cheese factories that hikers often use as night shelters during long trips. Enjoying a lovely cheese platter including a glass of wine we were discussing the beauty of living in Australia while enjoying our passion for simple but great food. The rustic atmosphere of the old wooden hut must have influenced our wildest fantasies, the idea of FROMART® – traditionally and Genuine Handcrafted Swiss Style Cheese on the others side of the world was born.

Both having a passion for alpine style products and taste, and recognizing the lack of high quality Swiss Style cheese currently locally produced and available in Australia, we decided to team up with other Swiss cheese makers in order to give birth to a new brand in the Australian Gourmet cheese market.
